Cleaning: Some people, think a dental check-up is like standing in line at the bank -- a waste of time. But other people realize that even when their teeth aren't bothering them, a visit to the dentist is important. During the exam, the dentist checks for signs of tooth decay and oral cancer, examining your tongue, your glands and the inside of your mouth. The dentist checks your bite and looks for problems, such as teeth grinding and disorders with the jaw joint. Your dentist or a dental hygienist will clean your teeth to remove the plaque left after you brush and floss. Without regular professional cleaning, this plaque can build up and harm your teeth and gums. Having regular check-ups is vital in caring for your precious smile. And that's something you can take to the bank!

Fillings: The dentist can fill cavities with either a tooth colored (composite) or a silver (amalgam) filling. You can discuss which material would be best for your situation with the dentist. Sensitivity after having a new filling is common. But if the sensitivity is severe and persists for more than a few weeks, you should contact your dentist.

Sealants: One way to protect against cavities is with sealants. Sealants are relatively easy for your dentist to apply, and they can protect vulnerable areas of the teeth by sealing out plaque and food. Sealants can also stop small areas of decay from becoming larger.

Crowns: If you want a smile that's your crowning glory, you may need a crown to cover a tooth and restore it to its normal shape and size. A crown can make your tooth stronger and improve its appearance. It can cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't enough tooth left. It can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that's already broken. A crown is a good way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped. It's also used to cover a dental implant. If your dentist recommends a crown, it's probably to correct one of these conditions. Your dentist's primary concern, like yours, is helping you keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright -- literally, your crowning glory.

Extractions: Extractions are performed here at our office. An extraction would be recommended if a tooth was so severely decayed or fractured that no other means of repair would be possible. People are also advised extractions for wisdom teeth especially if the positioning is not good or if there is a potential for recurrent infection. Severe periodontal disease is another reason for extraction in order to keep the other areas of bone in a healthy condition. An extraction is completed in one appointment and the sometimes a follow-up appointment is scheduled.

Replacements: If you have missing teeth, there are several options for replacement.  There are implants, bridges, partial dentures and full dentures.

Bridge - Replaces one or more missing teeth. Some permanent teeth are needed so the bridge has something to attach to.

Dentures - Removable and known as partial or full. A partial denture replaces some missing teeth and has clasps which hook to the natural teeth. A full denture is used when there are no teeth in either the upper or lower jaw, or in some cases, both.

Cosmetics: A smile can be the most eye-catching feature of a face. With dentistry's many advances, you no longer have to settle for stained, chipped, or misshapen teeth. You now have choices that can help you smile with confidence. Even the most subtle change in your smile can make a dramatic difference in the way you look and feel about yourself. Talk to us about the options most suitable for you, what your expectations are and the dental fees involved. Bleaching and veneers (thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front side of teeth.) are common options.

Root Canals: Once upon a time, if you had a tooth with a diseased nerve, you'd probably lose that tooth. Today, with a special dental procedure called a root canal therapy you may save that tooth. Inside each tooth is the pulp which provides nutrients and nerves to the tooth, it runs like a thread down through the root. When the pulp is diseased or injured, the pulp tissue dies. If you don't remove it, your tooth gets infected and you could lose it. After the dentist removes the pulp, the root canal is cleaned and sealed off to protect it. Then your dentist places a crown over the tooth to help make it stronger. Most of the time, a root canal is a relatively simple procedure with little or no discomfort involving one to three visits. Best of all, it can save your tooth and your smile!

Periodontal Services: Sometimes, no matter how careful you've been about brushing and flossing, your dentist has bad news for you. You have gum disease. Depending on how extensive the condition is to your gums, the recommended treatment may be a special kind of cleaning called scaling and root planing. Starting with a local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort. Your dentist or hygienist uses a small scaler or an ultrasonic cleaner to clean beneath your gumline and remove plaque and tartar. Then the root surfaces on the tooth are planed and smoothed. This lets the gum tissue heal and reattach itself to the tooth again. Once you and your dentist are sure that healing is well underway, be sure to practice good oral hygiene to keep your teeth healthy for years to come.

Implants: Dental implants can provide artificial teeth that look natural and feel secure. Dental implants can also be used to attach full or partial dentures. Implants, however, are not an option for everyone. Because implants require surgery, patients must be in good health, have healthy gums, have adequate bone to support the implant and be committed to meticulous oral hygiene and regular dental visits. If you are considering implants, a thorough evaluation by your dentist will help determine if you would be a good candidate.
